This album was made in my small studio soon after moving to Brooklyn from The Bay Area. Every week I would start a new piece, usually starting with a sample from my record collection, and build on it with guitars, synths and bass lines until it felt like there was some real organic life to it. After I felt content with the direction and melodic identity of a song I invited Bryan Rincón over to record various alto sax, soprano sax and flute parts as well as add his own extended improvisations. The final stage was taking the the tracks to Todd Carder (Big Thief, Nate Smith) at Bunker Studios in Brooklyn for a two-day mixing marathon session where we got deep in the weeds of sonic ideas and explorations. The result is 8 songs, mostly around 2 minutes each, playing out like short scenes in a movie and serving as vignettes for the live experience coming to a club near you.

This album is entirely indebted to a long list of artists who came before me, whether I sampled their albums or took strong artistic direction from:
Idris Muhammad, Bobby Humphrey, Lonnie Liston Smith, Jeff Parker, Bateria Maravilha, Madlib, Sonny Rollins, Makaya McCraven, Bud Powell, J Dilla and Angela Davis
